ANNA SLATER
Anna graduated from the University of Nottingham with a PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry (2011), specialising in the synthesis of perylene bisimide derivatives. After PDRA positions in porphyrin chemistry (University of Nottingham) and supramolecular materials science (University of Liverpool), Anna was appointed as a Royal Society-EPSRC Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow in 2016. Her research interests span flow chemistry, materials science, supramolecular self-assembly, and organic synthesis of polyaromatic molecules.

CHRIS JONES
PDRA
Chris graduated from Durham University with a PhD in Chemistry (2017), specialising in the design and synthesis of supramolecular gels. He completed a PDRA project at Queen’s University Belfast investigating pharmaceutical hydrate crystallisation in mixed solvents. His current research focusses on the self-assembly of macrocycles and cages in flow, and is jointly funded by EPSRC and the Royal Society.

HENRY MORRIS
3rd Year PhD Student
Henry completed his four year MChem at the University of Leicester, which included a placement year at Hexcel Composites. His PhD is in "High Throughput Materials Discovery in Continuous Flow" with Dr Anna Slater and is funded as part of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design. His interests include materials, process development and green chemistry.
GROUP MEMBERS

ABBIE SCHOLES
2nd Year PhD Student
Abbie completed her four year MChem at the University of Liverpool where her 4th year project focussed on the synthesis of chiral functionalised piperazines as novel β-turn mimetics. Her PhD with Dr Anna Slater is in “High-throughput flow screening of metal sequestration agents” which is funded by the Royal Society. Her research interests include organic synthetic chemistry, macrocycle and flow chemistry.

MEGAN CARR
2nd Year PhD Student
Megan completed her 4 year MChem degree at the University of Liverpool where she achieved a 1st class degree. Her 3rd and 4th year projects involved novel polymer synthesis in the Rannard group. She also completed an Analytical Chemistry Trust funded summer studentship studying 2D NMR for pka measurements in 2017 with Dr Iggo. Her PhD is in "Self-Assembly under Continuous Flow Conditions".

PATRYCJA ROSZKOWSKA
1st Year PhD Student
Patrycja completed her MChem at University of Liverpool in 2018 where she designed Python code for structural optimisation of crystal structures. During her study she undertook an industrial placement at Randox where she was involved in development of an assay reagent kit. After a year in the sales and marketing team at Manchester Organics she joined the Slater group in 2019. Now she is excited to be working on her PhD in “Non-thermal plasmas in size-controlled bubbles: from fundamental understanding to control”, jointly supervised by Dr James Walsh and Dr Timothy Easun.

CAITLIN SHIELDS, ELEANOR BARLOW, SALLY STANFORD
4th Year MChem and MSc students 2019/20
Caitlin, Eleanor (joint student with Dr Samantha Chong), and Sally are working on projects in functional material flow synthesis and crystallisation, with a focus on sustainable materials and processes.

JACQUI EVERITT and JOANNA SNIADEK
3rd Year MChem students 2019/20
Jacqui and Joanna are joining us for their CHEM366 3rd year project.
Jacqui is working on the synthesis and characterisation of supramolecular cages. We're very happy to welcome them both to the group!
FORMER GROUP MEMBERS

VALENTINA ABET
Valentina received her Ph.D. from the University of Alcalá (Spain, 2012), studying radical arylation reactions on pyridine derivatives. She moved to France where she worked as a postdoctoral researcher on organic, supramolecular and medicinal chemistry projects at the CNRS and the Institut Curie. After three years in industry (Redx Oncology, United Kingdom), she joined the group in September 2017. Valentina left for a permanent position in industry in Dec 2018, and is greatly missed!
